I Shared My Story on the Perks of Being a Widow Podcast
I sat down with the Perks of Being a Widow podcast, hosted by Avalon, to share my story: how I met my husband, life since losing him, and a few moments of laughter along the way.
I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the Perks of Being a Widow podcast to talk about my life, my marriage, and everything that has come since. It was an honest, warm conversation, and I am really glad I said yes to it. You can listen to the full episode at the bottom of this post.
We started right at the beginning: how my husband and I actually met. It was a blind date, of all things. His best friend was going out with my best friend, and the two of them decided to fix us up. He was a pharmacist and I was a dispenser at a chemist near where I lived, so we already spoke the same language in a funny sort of way. What I will always remember about that first date is that he had an enormous glass of Diet Coke, and I managed to spill the whole thing over him. Not the smoothest start, but clearly it did the trick.
I also opened up about something I do not talk about very often: being seriously ill in my twenties. At 26 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Thankfully it was benign, but it meant three operations and a shunt that I still have to this day, running from my head down to my stomach. Looking back, that experience shaped how my husband and I understood each other, and how we carried the harder things together.
The conversation goes on to cover the parts of my story that are not always easy to share, and the ways life has changed since losing him. If you have walked a similar road, I hope hearing it brings you some comfort, and maybe even a laugh or two along the way.
My thanks to Avalon and the Perks of Being a Widow team for having me, and for holding such a gentle space to talk. Have a listen below, and do let me know what it stirs up for you.
